From Odisha five persons got Padma award(2013), Padma Vibhushan to Raghunath Mohapatra. The list of Padma awardees released by the govt on Friday. The renowned sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra got the Padma Vibhushan award( it is the India's second highest civilian award) for his contribution to art and craft. He was awarded Padma Shri in 1976 and honoured with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 2001.
The four other Odia are Professor Jogesh Chandra Pati, Kailash Ch Meher, AK Bir and Dr Tara P Dash. Professor Jogesh Chandra Pati( now based in USA) got Padma Bhushan. Pati has made pioneerincontributions to the notion of a unification of elementary particles – quarks and leptons – and of their gauge forces force: weak, electromagnetic, and strong.
Padma Shri recipient Dr Das, director of L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Bhubaneswar, is an internationally reputed retinal surgeon.
